Amsterdam-based ASIF Ventures, a student-centric venture capital fund backed by the UvA, announced on Tuesday, May 30, that it has invested in Linear Logic, a data platform for building and deploying AI systems.
Miguel Pieters and Luc Wentholt, who have known each other since childhood, are the co-founders of Linear Logic.
Miguel, with his deep understanding of AI and data science drives Linear Logic tech, whereas Luc comes in with a wealth of experience on the finance and operations side, and streamlines operational aspects of the business.
What does Linear Logic solve?
In the rapidly growing field of AI, one of the most complex and time-consuming challenges is managing large amounts of data for deep learning purposes.
Traditional processes are labour-intensive, costly, and often fraught with inefficiencies.
These issues only intensify as projects grow and data sources multiply, creating what Linear Logic terms a ‘data whirlpool’ where projects become unsustainable due to increasing complexity, resource drain, and unmanageable workflows, leading to governance issues.
And how?
Leveraging AI-assisted technology, Linear Logic provides a streamlined solution for data management, quality control, and AI deployment.
A critical component of Linear Logic’s platform is its data layer.
By introducing a managed data layer that acts as an intermediary between various data sources and projects, the company ensures this layer is persistently state-aware and can be tracked across multiple versions over time.
Furthermore, Linear Logic’s data platform features ‘datasets,’ where engineers combine their data, labels, and model predictions. This provides an ideal space to assess model performance and alignment with ground truth data. It makes it easier to detect bias and fine-tune model hyperparameters and understand why models make certain predictions.
The company’s data merger also allows data ingestion and version checkpoints to track which data partitions led to specific results.
Inspired by Git and Docker, Linear Logic also offers a dataset:version pair to track data versioning.
Every data operation made within Linear Logic automatically supports versioning, sharing, and clear linkage between steps and datasets.
The company is also rolling out Darwin, a cutting-edge location intelligence solution for corporate businesses.
It is designed to provide actionable insights, enabling executives to understand, plan, and act within minutes instead of weeks.
ASIF Ventures
ASIF Ventures is a student-centric venture capital fund backed by the UvA, the VU, and private investors. It is run by a group of recent graduates, and have led investments in Lalaland, GetEase, Workwize, and ten other student-driven firms.
“Despite our broad, sector-agnostic investment scope at ASIF, we are selective in our backing of startups, seeking out those with the potential to bring about significant change in their respective sectors. Linear Logic’s mission to accelerate AI development holds great promise in revolutionising how businesses manage and work with data, regardless of the sector they operate in. We believe in backing startups that are not afraid of experimentation, and who see challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, and Linear Logic perfectly embodies this philosophy,” says ASIF Ventures.
